Cross-border Spring Festival gala held in Nepal
A gala show was staged at the Yak & Yeti Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal on Feb 7 to celebrate the upcoming 2018 Chinese New Year (Feb 16). This is the first time China has held the annual feast in South Asia.

Organized by the People's Government of Yunnan Province, Chinese Embassy in Nepal and Nepali culture, tourism and civil aviation authorities, the event is the fourth time China has held a cross-border Spring Festival gala outside China.
Southwest China's Yunnan province aims to strengthen its cultural exchanges with countries and regions along the Belt and Road through the gala show and forge its role of a national window facing the South and Southeast Asia.

Comprised of nearly 60 performances, the preparation for the show started two months ago, featuring a number of Yunnan local uniqueness and reflecting a joyful and auspicious atmosphere of the Spring Festival, according to Tao Chun, director head of Yunnan Theater.
More than 400 guests attended to watch the show, including Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong and other representatives from Nepali Confucius Institute, media outlets as well as international students.
During 2017, the friendship between China and Nepal has seen further development, as more frequent and active exchanges are taking place in various industries. China has become Nepal's largest investor for two consecutive years, said Yu during her speech at the gala.

The last performance was the song Auld lang syne staged by Chinese and Nepali performers, expressing the deep friendship between the two countries and the hope for a permanent relationship.
Recent years have seen a growing number of such activities held outside China, including Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, which has received wide applause and has helped promote the construction of Belt and Road Initiative, said Ling Li, official from the State Council Information Office.
