Bangladesh's trade deficit rose by three times in the July-September period, compared to the same time of last year.
The latest data from the country's central bank showed that the trade deficit rose to 6.50 billion U.S. dollars in the July-September period of the current fiscal year, from 2.04 billion U.S. dollars during the same period of last fiscal year.
The country's imports payment totaled 17.32 billion U.S. dollars, up 47.59 percent year on year, in the July-September period of the current fiscal year, while earnings from exports stood at 10.82 billion U.S. dollars, up 11.57 percent.
Bangladesh's trade deficit soared greatly as the economy reopened in the recent months after a long shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, experts said.
