Myanmar logs highest stock trade in August

Myanmar's Yangon Stock Exchange (YSX) logged highest stock trade with 322,176 shares in August this year, said figures released by the YSX on Wednesday.

 

The traded shares of last month valued over 1.9 billion kyats ($1.29 million).

 

The August's traded shares showed an increase of 65,935 shares, compared to those in July when 256,241 shares were traded on YSX, with trading value of over 1.2 billion kyats.

 

According to the latest YSX's figures, a total of 9,370 shares were traded by the listed companies at estimated value of over 64.7 million kyats when it closed on Wednesday afternoon.

 

At present, the five listed companies - First Myanmar Investment (FMI), Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings (MTSH), Myanmar Citizens Bank (MCB), First Private Bank (FPB) and TMH Telecom Public Co. Ltd are trading on the YSX.

 

The YSX recently doubled the stock trade matching time from two to four per day and introduced online trading system to attract more investors in stock market as well as to promote stock trading value.

 

The new Myanmar Companies Law, which was enforced on Aug. 1, 2018, allows foreign investors to trade at the YSX.

 

Jointly owned by the Myanmar Economics Bank, Japan's Daiwa Securities and the Japan Exchange Group, the YSX officially began trading in March 2016.
