Singapore held here Friday evening a parade to celebrate its 54th birthday.

The National Day Parade (NDP) was held at the Padang, a piece of green, open space where Singapore's first NDP was held in 1966.

The event attracted some 27,000 people.

A 171-vehicle mobile column showcased Singapore's military and civil capabilities, some of which will be put on show on Saturday to let people to have a better view.

The event ended when everyone was singing in choir this year's parade theme song Our Singapore, and other tunes as well as watching fireworks display.
