India's COVID-19 cases rise to 8,364,086, Indonesia reports 4,065 new cases

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Asia-Pacific countries as India's tally rose to 8,364,086 on Thursday while Indonesia reported 4,065 new cases.

 

A total of 50,210 new cases were detected in India in the past 24 hours, according to the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

 

With 704 new deaths since Wednesday morning, the total death toll in the country reached 124,315.

 

Still there are 527,962 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 7,711,809 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals so far.

 

The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,065 within one day to 425,796, with the death toll adding by 89 to 14,348, the Health Ministry said.

 

According to the ministry, 3,860 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 357,142.

 

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,594 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number in the country to 389,725.

 

The DOH said 468 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 349,543. The death toll climbed to 7,409 after 42 more patients died from the virus, the DOH added.

 

Meanwhile, the DOH said that 71 health care workers had died from COVID-19 as of Nov. 3.

 

Malaysia reported 1,009 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 36,434, the Health Ministry said.

 

Another 839 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 25,654, or 70.4 percent of all cases.

 

Of the remaining 10,503 active cases, 78 are being held in intensive care and 28 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

 

Tokyo reported 269 new daily cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the capital's cumulative total to 31,893 infections.

 

According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the latest figure marks the first time in three weeks the capital of 14 million has seen the daily tally top the 250-mark.

 

The spike on Thursday also comes on the heels of infections dropping below 200 the previous day, the metropolitan government said.

 

Prior to the official nationwide COVID-19 figures being released, Japan's health ministry said Thursday that it had confirmed novel coronavirus cluster infections at more than 100 locations across Japan in the week through Monday.

 

South Korea reported 125 more cases of the COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 27,050.

 

The daily caseload stayed above 100 for two straight days due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

 

One more death was confirmed, bringing the death toll at 475. The total fatality rate stood at 1.76 percent.

 

Afghanistan reported 121 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 41,935 cases, including 5,941 active cases, the country's Ministry of Public Health confirmed.

 

Six COVID-19 patients succumbed to the virus, taking the death toll to 1,554, while 36 patients recovered during the period.

 

New Zealand reported two new cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation.

 

Eight previously reported cases are now considered to have recovered, which means the total number of active cases is 67. New Zealand's total number of confirmed cases is 1,617.
