The World Bank has approved 120 million U.S. dollars for a project to help Bangladesh enhance climate resilience and productivity of irrigated agriculture and fisheries.

The Climate-Smart Agriculture and Water Management Project will rehabilitate and modernize public flood control, drainage, and irrigation infrastructure, said the bank in a statement arriving here Wednesday.

This will help improve the irrigation and drainage system for lands of over 115,000 hectares in total, reducing the flood damage to crops by 60 percent.

The project will also help increase the incomes of 170,000 poor people who are vulnerable to climate change, with half of them being women.
