Indonesia's sales of four-wheeled vehicles in April 2021 jumped 227 percent (year on year/yoy) as a result of the implementation of sales tax on luxury goods incentives, a senior minister said.

"In March 2021 when the policy was started, the increase in the car sales was recorded at 28.85 percent (yoy) and in April, it was logged at 227 percent," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto told media at a virtual meeting here on Wednesday.

Given the fact, the government will continue the implementation of the incentive scheme on sales tax on luxury goods in accordance with the scenario as has been set earlier, Hartarto said.

The government provides the incentives with a 100 percent discount in the March - May 2021 period, a 50 percent discount in the June - August 2021 period, and a 25 percent discount in the September - December 2021 period for the medium category and the 4x2 type of vehicles with segments up to 1,500 cc.

The government has also provided stimuli such as the elimination or reduction of cost burdens for business players, direct cash assistance for certain crew and employees as well as vaccinations for transport workers and passengers, the senior minister said.

In addition, the government is currently reviewing the appropriate stimuli for other sectors such as those in the fields of transportation and property, he added.
