Indonesia's new stock investors increased by 1 million single investor identifications (SIDs), bringing the total number of SIDs to about 2.7 million by Aug. 31, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) said on Thursday.

This record spike is the result of synergy and collaboration by all stakeholders in the Indonesian capital market, IDX's President Director Inarno Djajadi said in a statement.

The number of new stock investors grew rapidly in just eight months this year, which was almost double the increase in 2020 with 590,658 new SIDs, Djajadi noted.

"Digital optimization, which started in 2019 and was maximized in 2020, followed by synergy and collaboration with all capital market stakeholders, has become the strength of investor development in 2021 and the main reason for the rapid increase in the number of new investors this year," he added.

According to him, this achievement coincided with a new record for capital market SID growth.
